Interactivity #3

As I am posting this, only a couple of people have collaborated in the spreadsheet. However everyone that did participate in this spreadsheet worked together to achieve our final product.

The final inventory is very different, there were a lot of different types of technology. There were different kinds of websites and different kinds of electronics. Everyones contributions made our list of technologies very detailed. I was unaware of some of the technologies that were listed, it got me intrigued and made me want to research exactly what they were.

Technology such as the Zimbio and Digg websites will be beneficial to the READ 411 class because it gets students to put their work online and create their own professional website. This website can also be a place where they post their artist statement. This inventory of technology will also link the two classes together because students must understand and comprehend each technology.

iPad creating art

This article talks about how they wanted to create art with the iPad. Although there is now mouse or keyboard they wanted to find a way to make art with it. This project uses an iPad and a Canon Digital SLR to create "future magic". This group of people realized that the iPad gives off enough light that they could create an image and capture it. They would drag iPads through the air and capture the glare that is given by this device. They spent hours capturing these images to create this project.

This shows that technology could be the main use of the art work. They are not creating anything with the iPad they are physically just using the light that is emitted from this iPad and capture it. There is a gallery in the article that you must see to understand the article. This is amazing art work that created with technology!

Interactivity #2

Step One:

Art was not touched upon in the video of history of technology in schools. However, I believe that the television would be the influential technology during the historical time period. Television could talk about the history of art and what was going on during this time period or prior time periods. Students could visually see what the world looked like in the in this time which could be a positive aspect to the curriculum. I believe that art history is a very important aspect to art since many artist use it for influence in their art work. Things such as the chalk board, radio, or computer games do not help the art classroom since art is mainly visual. This is why I believe that the television although only used in early age classroom is most influential.

Step Two:

I believe that television/movies have has the greatest impact on art during 1820- 1990. Although both teachers and schools boards were apprehensive to having technology in the classroom, in the end I believe it was beneficial. In chapter 2 of "Rethinking Technology and Schools" it states that one perspective of technology is the celebrant. This perspective states that, "..the aesthetic qualities of technology will inspire and motivate students, thus far exceeding any potential negative effects" (33). This perspective is the most important one because most art teachers I have had always say that art history should inspire you to create work that you have not created before. The television/movies can show students old art pieces or host interviews with older artist. The chapter also states that, "Teachers who subscribe to this perspective acknowledge new media and technologies simply as effective tools that aid the process of instruction and the communication of information" (34). This quote is a perfect example of why television should in introduced in the classroom.

I also believe that if I incorporate television into my art classroom I will have a majority of the casual acceptance of adolescent perspectives. Students will make meaning of the television and relate it to their work. However, when having television or movies playing in your classroom they must be informational as well as interesting to the students so they gain as much knowledge from it.

Step Three:

"Watch and Learn"

Demo of using Smart Board

Youtube Video

Although this video is very short it shows what intricate concepts you can do with the smart board. This teacher is painting a painting on the smart board. There are many programs on this device that you could use to show students how famous artist created their work. Jackson Pollack was a famous painter would used splatter paint for all of his paintings. This is a lesson that I found that incorporates his technique with the smart board. Lesson
This is an excellent way to have students actually make a piece of art through technology. This will also engage students in the lesson and keep the interested.
